Linelight is one of the best puzzle and maze games I’ve ever played. Wonderful and simple, Linelight is a happy place to hang out.
Simple controls, moving your “Light” with the arrow keys or controller along a “Line” maze path, you finish little quick puzzles and progress through the worlds. No loading screens or nonsense gold start completions, you just finish and fly to the next place.
The mechanics of Linelight serve their purpose perfectly. Basic simple puzzles do not need anything extra, the few enemies thrown in and things like locked doors are used exactly as they should be to make the player think for a short second and move on.
The pacing of this game is perfect. I never felt thrown into something I couldn’t figure out, and everything felt like I was constantly progressing in to more advanced stages and actually learning the personality of the game. It’s extremely well done.
Sound design and graphics are good, but can be repetitive. The game is backed with classical piano music but I feel there could have been more creative choices and variety. Visually the game is minimalist and tries to create a soothing atmosphere with no major surprises. Lights in the backgrounds are designed with significant banding effect and I don’t feel that was a good choice, it looks horrible and pulls focus unnecessarily.
Great puzzle and maze game for anyone. Controller support works great, and ultrawide resolutions make me happy.
